    Mercy Health - Mornington

From clothing shop to healthcare outreach, the new Mercy Health Mornington office underwent a huge transformation.

In order to bring it up the Mercy Health standards, ICON INTERIORS completed extensive base building works including termite & asbestos removal, air conditioning installation & shopfront replacement. The interior design direction incorporated the 5 Well-being Pillars™ behind the science of design, and leveraged inspiration from the geographical location of the tenancy (a 10 min walk down the road & you are on the beatiful Mornington coastline) Utilising our genius Force Multiplier™ methodology, ICON resolved the complex regulatory Disability Discrimination Act compliance requirements and created a staff well-being and patient experience of vibrancy, freshness and revitalisation. Inspired by the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the local community, soothing mint & blue tones were used throughout, complemented by largely grey & beige carpets, wood grains, stones & felts.

I would recommend ICON INTERIORS, I would use you again

The challenging aspect of the tenancy lay in achieving compliant access to the back half, which is slightly raised. After much strategic brainstorming by the Space Planning Team and compliance checks, ICON INTERIORS successfully created a highly space efficient workplace with a compliant ramp which allows egress to the breakout, training room, server room & toilets.

It was great to work again with Mercy Health to create a new home for the fortunate Mornington team!

The interior design direction incorporated the science behind the 5 Well-being Pillars© along with the geographical location of the tenancy (a 10 min walk down the road & you are on the beautiful Mornington coastline).  Inspired by the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the local community, soothing mint & blue tones were used throughout, complemented by largely grey & beige carpets, wood grains, stones & felts.

Previously working with Mercy Health for the office fitout in Ballarat, ICON INTERIORS were engaged to complete a test fit for several sites for the new Mornington office.  Completing the tenancy assessment & and subsequent advisory of 3 sites, the perfect tenancy was finally selected in the middle of Main Street, the heart of the little beach town of Mornington.

Originally a retail women’s clothing shop, the tenancy required major ceiling & air conditioning works to bring it to a useable workplace standard for the Mercy Health staff.  Interestingly, this site had both termites & asbestos, neither of which we come up against very frequently. Both of these hurdles are simple for an experienced commercial team to resolve, &  within a week Team ICON were back into full swing of the project.

One of the key things with ICON INTERIORS is the use of our transparent project management software. This allowed the Mercy Health team located over Australia, the daily site photos & reports, taking away the requirement for either a flight or a drive to Mornington!

The look & feel of the office fitout space was largely inspired by the location of the tenancy. The Design Team wanted the space to reflect its seaside location while still being an environment in which its inhabitants could focus & achieve for the local community. Dancing on the knife edge between casual & contemporary, this office feels restful to be in, the strategic floorplan especially catering for easy communication between teams & light transfer from the front through the entire tenancy.

White powdercoat was chosen to keep the bright, welcoming vibe flowing through.

The use of the Dulux colour Mint Icecream was inspired by the colour of the sea in the shallows. Fresh & offbeat, the colour motif is repeated in tabletops & visitor chairs, along with an armchair in the breakout space.

A range of muted neutral textures have been used, creating subtle dept & interest. The woven reed- like carpet (Godfrey Hirst Converge Crossroad) pattern echoes streets intersecting one another, while the wall panelling sports a soft flecked mottled grey. A similar pattern is reflected in the recycled glass marble-look herringbone mosaics in the kitchen & on the tiled flooring.

A strong blue (Tyrolean Blue Egger) in the kitchen was selected to add some punch to the largely light-coloured space. Visible from most areas of the tenancy, the unexpected pop of deep blue brings another element of the sea inside. White half-moon handles, used in the kitchen, the managers credenza & the utilities joinery emulate the frothy foam on the tips of the waves while adding an interesting shape, tying back to the curvilinear forms of the furniture & fittings.

Sculptural visitor chairs in the managers office bring in colour & form to the simple space.

Throughout the workplace, a combination of Laminex Milkwood & Polytec Artisan Oak provides a quirky & refreshing colour scheme, with the light & dark tones playing off each other.

In the reception & front meeting room, rattan pendants were sourced to incorporate another beachy element into the space without overwhelming the corporate atmosphere for the Mercy Health Mornington team.
