Blackburn Medical Clinic
Founded in 1952 by Dr Neil Carson, the existing Blackburn Clinic required works to provide the Medical Clinic clientele of all ages a welcoming space that was practical, in a post-COVID world.
The thriving Blackburn Clinic with its fast pace wanted to better serve the local community. The Blackburn Clinic needed to partner with a reliable team that not only could physically create the space, but negotiate the tedious and previously thought ‘impossible’ works without disruption of the busy daily Medical Clinic patient schedule.
Having already worked with Icon Interiors with another Medical Clinic fitout in Melbourne, Peter and Leonie gave the brief to the space engineers within the Icon team, for the magic creation. Drastically improving the people flow, space flow & energy flow, while providing a reception catering to wheelchair bound patients, the Icon engineered floorplan blueprint dissipated the potential for congestion during peak use, particularly critical in reception spaces.
For me, the standout feature, were the people, undoubtedly the people. Being in the business of looking after people, that’s the bit that immediately hit me. The technical expertise was clearly evident, but it’s the ability to work with people, to overcome issues, to modify plans, to always keep the client at centre and the vision at centre.
What was also crucial for the Investment ownership group, was to create an identity for the building as a prominent landmark in North Melbourne that would maximise asset value & return on investment. With heritage overlay considerations to navigate, the Icon design studio collaborated to created multiple design directions and consulted with the Melbourne City Council to reach heritage approval.
