The Lost Dogs Home - North Melbourne

From the very beginning, the ICON INTERIORS team was keener than mustard to work for the Lost Dogs’ Home! We love everything they stand for and were glad of the opportunity to assist this noble team with better use of the Gracie St office space.

The North Melbourne office fit out transformation works involved careful craftsmanship, as the original framing was all done in a beautiful solid timber.  Sourcing exactly matching new timber to the existing wasn’t possible, (as timber naturally changes tone as it ages) so the ICON Trade Team re-purposed existing framing pieces to create the new spaces, carefully dismantling and re-installing the timber.

Being sympathetic to the stunning original design in the architectural building was at the forefront of the Design Teams' minds, revamping the area and changing the office layout to better suit the new management and staff. Bright colours lend a touch of fun in the Lost Dogs Home corporate colours, blue & green. A small part of the overarching acoustic mitigation strategy was installing colourful acoustic panelling to some of the walls of both the CEO’s office/ meeting room and the breakout/ staff meeting room to improve the acoustics of the rooms.  Confidentiality was a primary concern for Jaci & Grant; the panelling absorbs sound from the room, preventing sound transmitting outside of the space, thus fulfilling their requirement for acoustic privacy for confidential meetings.

The new meeting & breakout chairs also feature a splash of colour. Using colour is often shied away from by our clients initially, commonly being afraid it ‘will date’ or be polarising or maybe not to the persons own specific colour preference. The finishes of a project are taken from an overall point of view combining best practice methodology and the ICON INTERIORS 5 Wellbeing Pillars©. It’s proven that the careful use of colour drives employee engagement & attachment to the company.  Read this article for more insights on why features that may seem like ‘nice to haves’ are actually necessary for a functioning workplace.

The feature of the new works is undoubtably the awesome frostings all along the glass, showing Lost Dogs’ Home artwork of dogs and cats. The frostings are definite showstopper for this office fitout Melbourne and demonstrates what they are all about.

A fun fact about the dogs that come to the office with their owners every day - several of the dogs (who were adopted from the Home just across the road), are called Gracie, because of the street name!  (Call out “Gracie!” to one of the wonderful 4 legged creatures, and 18 come running 😃)

Working with Jaci to make this office fit out transformation in North Melbourne happen for the Lost Dogs’ Home was awesome.  ICON INTERIORS loved being a part of the workplace improvements & operational efficiencies for this team to help them achieve and their admirable mission.

Happy client projects!
